WINTERLUDE: Crowds flock to sites around the city

The annual winter extravaganza continues every weekend until Family Day, on Monday, Feb. 17.

Winterlude kicked off with a bang Saturday, as the fine weather drew thousands to old and new sites across the downtown area.

The new attractions were a hit along Sparks Street, which was packed with celebrants taking in the ice carving and other attractions.

Down in the ByWard Market, crowds were also milling around to take advantage of temperatures just below the freezing mark.

Snowflake Village in neighbouring Gatineau was also hopping.

And the ever-popular Rideau Canal Skateway welcomed hundreds of visitors out for an icy spin and maybe a Beaver Tail.

Winterlude continues every weekend until Family Day, on Monday, Feb. 17.
