Fourth-inning outburst carries Ottawa Champions to win over Cuban team

A six-run rally in the fourth inning carried the Ottawa Champions to a 9-3 victory against the Cuban National Team in a Can-Am League baseball game at RCGT Park on Saturday night.

Tyson Gillies hit a home run and added two other hits, while Sebastien Boucher also contributed three hits to the Champions’ 15-hit attack.

Phillippe Aumont limited the Cubans to five hits and one earned run over five innings to earn his first Can-Am League victory. Four relievers finished up with one inning each for the Champions, who improved their regular-season record to 10-18.

The Cubans, one of two international teams touring through the Can-Am League, received three of their nine hits from Yoelkis Cespedes. The loss was charged to starter Dachel Duquesne, who gave up six hits and five earned runs before being knocked out of the contest with one out in the bottom of the fourth.

The teams are scheduled to conclude their weekend series with a game starting at 1:35 p.m. on Sunday.
